Spooked in Switzerland by Cat Green is a delightful mystery set in a stunning location. Nina is on her way to Switzerland with her charming companions in tow. Her lovable fashion expert French Bulldog Jasper and best friend Holly are perfect to accompany her to a luxury resort. However, despite the luxuries offered, she can’t shake the feeling there’s more behind the invitation than meets the eye. She soon learns that the reason for her visit is to fix the hotel’s ghost situation and the general manager hopes that she can do so before the grand opening. Things take a turn for the worse when the general manager’s body is discovered and the charming vigneron that Nina had been spending time with gets the blame. That doesn’t stop Nina from getting to the bottom of what is really happening at the hotel and solving a murder while she’s at it.
Switzerland serves as a stunning and breathtaking backdrop that creates the ideal circumstances for Nina and Holly to enjoy a vacation in paradise. The luxuries are a fun inclusion and add a lightness to the tone while also establishing a lavish setting. The twists and turns are part of the fun and keep you intrigued until the very end. Nina’s arc throughout is a highlight with her using her different strengths to solve the mystery and grow in her own capabilities. The friendship between Holly and Nina is genuinely portrayed through the trust and support they provide each other. The two friends are surrounded by an assortment of characters that help drive the tone with their varying personalities, which include quirkiness, suspicion, and charm. Among those characters is Jasper, the French Bulldog and fashionista, who shines in every scene. He’s an adorable and innocent character who softens the people around him and is the perfect comic relief. His love of nice clothes adds gentle humor to the story and shows the various layers of his personality. Spooked in Switzerland by Cat Green is a fun read that has charm, murder, friendship, and an appealing dog - perfect for every mystery lover to enjoy.
