In Special Deceptions: The Coursodon Dimension Book 5 by M.L. Ryan, Alex has taken the throne, but only reluctantly. The death of his brother still smarts, but he has responsibilities he cannot walk away from. Hailey, his fiancée, is not having the time of her life as the fiancée of the Prince of Alenquai. Living her life in a cage was never her goal and lately it seems as if she has no privacy and no right to live her life. Things between Alex and Hailey are strained, and it seems like all the forces are against them.

But there is something more important than them. Something big is happening; something big is coming towards them. It is up to Hailey and Alex to find out what is happening and stop it before something bad occurs. The question is: Can they set aside their differences and arguments and work together for the betterment of their people?

What I really liked about this novel was the fact that the author's characters were human. Mostly fantasy writers have this fault of making their characters almost unapproachable. They become epic heroes. Ryan did an amazing job by making sure her characters were human. They made mistakes, they had second guesses, and they tried and sometimes failed. I also liked the little bits of humor every now and then. Sebastian is such a character. He had this amazing quirky, humorous interaction with Hailey. Now I just have to read the whole series because I would love to see how it all began. A really good read.

In a fantastic work of urban fantasy fiction by author M.L. Ryan, Special Deceptions: The Coursodon Dimension Book 5 will grip readers from the very first words, and will keep them obsessively turning the pages until the very end. Continuing the story of Alex Sunderland, reeling after his brother's death and his ascension to the position of crown prince, he's not sure what will become of his life, or what he thought would be his life before this shocking turn of events. And his fiancee, Hailey, is having a difficult time with her new role, and is feeling rather trapped. But when some strange occurrences disrupt what is already their disrupted existence, Hailey and Alex need to come back together to figure out what exactly is going on in their future kingdom, and they need to do it before it's too late!

I loved Special Deceptions: The Coursodon Dimension Book 5. Loved. It. How's that for a review? Well, it's definitely how I felt about this book. Author M.L. Ryan has done a fantastic job in writing a realistic story in a fantasy environment, not always an easy task. And talk about fun, funny, adventurous and romantic all wrapped up into one. This book truly has it all! Any reader who loves urban fantasy, or anyone just looking for a great work of fiction in general, should absolutely read this book. I highly recommend this book, and will be waiting anxiously for the next one in this excellent series!
