Spare No One by Zack Scott is a dark and twisted murder story with powerful characters and an ingeniously imagined plot. Ashley Mercer is murdered in front of her apartment complex as she returns home after studying for her college finals. The curious thing is that there are thirteen witnesses to the crime and none of them tries to help her. Three days after the murder, one of the witnesses is found dead. And this isn’t the last, because the body count begins to grow. Detectives Alex Mercer and Samantha Stoll must find the killer before more victims turn up. But can Alex be focused when all this started with the murder of his sister and while Samantha has her own personal demons to fight?
Zack Scott takes readers along a dark and twisted path filled with blood, creating characters that leap off the pages with a life of their own. The setting is well created and it allows readers to follow the characters from the coffee shop through alleys they can easily visualize. The narrative is done in a beautiful prose and with dialogues that are realistic and exciting. The timely paragraph breaks create a dramatic effect that is powerful while enhancing the overall reading experience. I enjoyed the short sentences, the witty conversations, and the way the dialogue moves the story forward. The suspense in Spare No One is one of the techniques used to deepen the reader’s interest in the story. You get to like the characters as soon as you meet them and you want to know what happens to them. This is a spellbinding crime novel with an intriguing plot and characters to stick with.
