Space Story by W.W. Marplot is the story of three unique characters escaping from a doomed Earth. At the helm is Professor Lully, a brilliant scientist who has made many enemies but he doesn’t care. He founded a company that partners with the government and other countries. He used to design weapons, but space travel and robots are part of his ideas. He launches escape pods into space while he escapes on a space warship. On a separate craft, his neglected son, sixteen-year-old Bobby, is flown into space. Bobby has spent many nights at home, dreaming of outer space and of other planets. He wants to become a famous scientist like his dad. But his dad discourages him because he isn’t smart enough. Another space floater is Kay, an Earth girl whose strength hinges on her acquired knowledge of meditation, contemplation, and enlightened understanding. They’re on the run from highly-developed automatons that the professor is responsible for. Despite the perils that the two teenagers are facing, they will assume duties with tremendous responsibilities while navigating the politics and enigma of being teenagers.
One of the keys to this story’s charm is in the contrasting personalities and values of the three characters at the center of this young adult space opera, and you ride along not only for the adventure but also to find out how these three characters will continue to develop as the story progresses. W.W. Marplot brings an enticing solidity to the storyline, a world with an evocative space panorama and the kind of thrill found in the pages of early science fiction pulps. What makes this story awesome is that the worldview differences of the main characters play an integral part in the conflict and resolution. Professor Lully’s brilliance has placed them in trouble, while Kay’s philosophy proves to have a profound influence on the robots and AI that she encounters. As for Bobby, he struggles with becoming a reluctant god and anointed namer of things. Space Story is an enticing young adult sci-fi novel that even adults will enjoy reading.
