Song of the Mountain: The Mountain Trilogy: Book One by Michelle Isenhoff revolves around a thirteen-year-old orphan boy, Wei Song, who lives with his grandfather. Set against the backdrop of ancient oriental myths and legends, the story is filled with adventure, emotions, friendship, and other important lessons for readers to understand and get motivated. Song was not liked by anyone in his village, except Karina and his grandfather. There are a lot of things about himself and his past that Song wants to find out, but everything is a secret and is hidden from him by his grandfather telling him that it is being done for his protection. Will his past destroy his future or will Song be able to save himself from his past?
The story is filled with fantasy, adventure, intrigue, and suspense and the Chinese flavor to the theme gives it an exotic vibe and takes readers to another place and time. The narration is descriptive and detailed, making readers see the amazing visuals the author has painted. The story has some good messages for readers, along with some interesting twists and turns. The main character, Song, has been well portrayed, making him memorable. The rest of the characters in the story have also been sketched effectively and they complement the plot and the main character beautifully. The book makes an excellent bedtime story and the author’s fluidity in expression gives the story a good pace and movement. Like me, readers will be waiting in great anticipation for the next volume!
