Somewhere to Spend Christmas, Book Two of the Finding Somewhere Series by Verna Clay, is a fabulous read any time of the year, though the crisp feeling of winter holiday is ever present and welcome. I became a fan after reading the first Somewhere book of Clay’s series and meeting a cast of loving and enigmatic characters and situations. This romantic read is a great follow up and does not disappoint. At the end of the first book, I knew that I wanted to have more details and more romance relating to some of the prior characters, and so when I found that Vicky was back to fight another day against the attractive Michael Wainwright, I was happy!
Not only is that relationship explored, but so is the slowly burning relationship between Gabby and Leo, and even the continuing relationship between Faith and Baxter has a place in the story. The new main traipse into love involves the brooding fresh Sunny and the sweet Noah—young people struggling to fit into a bizarre world with baggage of their own to dislodge. Still, what of the paranormal in the midst of all these couplings and excitement in this small town? Yes, another ghostly mystery is afoot. In fact, this ghost continues the mystery of the first book, delving into a deeper story that must be brought to light for a ghostly mother and child to be reunited. But can that happen? Will the ladies of Somewhere be able to follow the clues? In Somewhere, anything can happen!
I was going through some personal illness issues when I picked this book up to read. I chose it because of the warm feelings I’d gotten from the first one. I needed a “comfort read.” I needed to curl up “somewhere” to feel better and feel less sorry for myself. This is the perfect book to cozy up to, knowing that there will be a satisfaction that only comes from a good plot and smooth execution. Verna Clay is a master of this kind of story—and she knows her characters so well that they pop off the page. Hats off to this author for another win with Somewhere to Spend Christmas! I’m now waiting for the next time I can go "somewhere!"
