Somewhere In Between, written by Meredith Wood, is an excellent coming of age story about thirteen-year-old Rowan as she faces her father's death and her mother's remarrying. But Rowan isn't an ordinary teenager. She can communicate with her dead father and does so when she visits his grave every day. Her mother, a writer, brings Rowan the news that she is engaged to a co-worker, and they will be moving to Saint Louis, forcing Rowan to leave her dad behind. A series of fits, cold shoulders, and rebellions pushes her new step-dad over the edge, and eventually Rowan releases all of the grief put on her from her father's death. The new family begins to become more united, and Rowan realizes she and her step-dad have more in common than she could ever imagine.
Somewhere In Between captures the essence of a thirteen-year-old girl perfectly when Woods adds instances of awkwardness and so-called "puppy love." This inspiring novel shows how the bonds between family members can truly heal wounds and communication is absolutely the key to understanding. Woods writes a story that cannot be put down. Teenagers and adults alike will fall in love with Rowan and be able to relate to her no matter what their situation, because all of us have had a time in our life when we were confused, angry, or just wanted to be understood. Read this wonderful novel by author Meredith Woods and I promise you will not be disappointed!
