A woman abused all her life has that moment of triumph when she can finally take back her life and be in control. A chance encounter with a drug deal gone bad and a bag full of money set her on a course of revenge for all those who took advantage of her, those who shattered her dreams, bullying her into submission to do things she didn’t want to do. And for what? It’s all about revenge – getting even. The most evil man in history, or at least one of the most evil, Adolph Hitler, must meet his Maker, so to speak, and take the punishment. Two out of three survivors of a plane crash in an isolated African animal reserve struggle to survive and, in an odd twist of fate, the unexpected happens as the survival of the fittest doesn’t end as one would expect. And there are more stories of revenge, redemption and so many other themes that reflect the darker side of humanity. Troubling stories, but, then again, life is rather troubling and disturbing.
Glenn Reschke’s anthology Something Went Cold is a collection of five compelling and sometimes horrific short stories. Each story immerses the reader in grim themes, but - surprisingly - the engaging style of writing, the well-planned plotlines, and the thoroughly compelling descriptive narrative attract the reader and don’t lose their grip till the very end. These stories may be dark and reflect the harsher side of humanity, the type of stories many of us might prefer to ignore, but they make the reader think, to explore their own inner dark sides and to wonder what type of world this is where darkness can exist, take control, empower, and yet still be ignored. Like Alfred Hitchcock, this author explores the realms of darkness and the evil that can penetrate and control the human soul. Very deep, soul-searching stories.
