Solitude Of Light is the third book in the Beyond Cascadia series by S. Kirk Pierzchala. Tomás Chen-Diaz hopes to break free from the past and look forward to the future. Letting go of the responsibilities of his family business and nursing a broken heart at the same time was tough, which was why Tomás was ready for a big change. So he joined the Servants of Christ, King of Heaven and Earth, a seminary in Russia that promised to provide Tomás with a distraction from his miseries. Learning new skills was harder than he anticipated, but his real test came when the past came knocking on his door. Before he knew it, Tomás was tested once again and had to face Francisco, confront his past and come out victorious. A tall order, but nothing that Tomás couldn’t handle, right?
Although I haven’t read the previous novels in the series, I had zero issues with catching up and loving the story. Tomás was a fantastic protagonist to follow. He wasn’t comfortable in his skin in the beginning, he was second-guessing everything and anything that came his way. However, as he spent more and more time at the seminary and made new friends and foes, he found his rhythm and his purpose. I loved that the science fiction aspects were not too overpowering of Tomás and his purpose at the seminary. Author S. Kirk Pierzchala had a game plan for Tomás and it showed with everything executed to perfection. I loved the dialogues and how they revealed the honest emotions of the characters. I was actually surprised by how enjoyable the whole experience was for me. Of course, religion played a huge role in the story, but it was a tool for Tomás to find confidence in himself, regain his faith, and use that to his advantage. I would highly recommend this fast-paced action thriller!
