What Helle and Jason share is unbreakable, a permanent situation of love, lust, and passion. Belfrage expertly combines necessary erotic details with the addictive language of love. While the manuscript contains some graphic intimacy, it is fitting to the kind of relationship the characters have. Smoke in Her Eyes is a steamy page turner not unlike The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I believe readers will turn the final page wanting more. Fortunately, Anna Belfrage hints at more to come.

A love story that transcends lifetimes. Wow. And yes, it’s a unique idea, one I haven’t read before and what makes it even more interesting is the fact that Anna Belfrage skillfully develops the plot, exploring possibilities that are hard to imagine. Character development is exceptionally done. For instance, Jason has skidded through different lifetimes, his heart filled with only one desire; to reunite with the love of his life. The complexity in the relationships is intriguing. Helle is a well-developed character with one unique chance to make things right, but her nemesis is equally determined to cause havoc in her life, and these are elements that strengthen the plot and define the extent of the conflict. The writing is beautiful, insightful, and atmospheric. Smoke in Her Eyes is an engaging story that is as transporting as it is well-written.
