Slipping into Darkness is a supernatural/horror book by D. M. Bourgeois. Abby Stewart lived a serene life along with her loving husband, children, and grandchildren. The tranquility was snuffed out like a candle in the wind, however, on the day she bought a peculiar walking stick. Abby realized she was being stalked by a creepy old man, but what troubled her further was the fact that people around her were dropping like flies after that day. Anyone in her way or doing something unfavorable to her met an untimely demise. Ever since that day, her life was no longer the same and neither was she as an ancient evil took root deep within her very soul. Abby's family is in the crosshairs of her stalker and whatever evil entity has attached itself to her. Will Abby break free from the clutches of evil? Or will the darkness consume her?

What I loved about Slipping into Darkness by D. M. Bourgeois is how the story was told. It started off light-hearted but as the pages kept turning the suspense and tension increased from chapter to chapter. This made the scenes more dramatic and added to the eerieness of certain scenes. Telling the story this way drew me in and had me entertained for hours. I found the surprises/twists of the plot to be incredible too, and there was some foreshadowing that made certain scenes down the line even more impactful and gratifying. Personally, I'd rather have Chucky under my bed than go through what took place in the flesh. The tension really helped magnify the effect of the scares and the suspense had a great role as well, as my imagination would go crazy thinking about what would happen next. The characters were well-written and I loved how organic and close-knit they were. This book was incredible! It delivered a well-thought-out plot, great narration, a solid cast, suspense and so much more. I'd happily read it again, and I recommend it to readers who love suspense coupled with some surprises and a healthy amount of horror.

Slipping Into Darkness by D.M. Bourgeois is about Abby, who loved going for walks in the mornings. She enjoyed nature and alone time. Lately, she had weird and scary dreams and she always uses a specific walking stick in the dreams. Griff, her husband, wakes her after a nightmare. She told him about the dreams, and that she needs a walking stick. It has to be very old and unique; she will know it when she sees it. They went to Summit to look for this stick but were out of luck. They also could not find one in a shop named Second Chances but on her way out, an old woman walked up to her with the exact walking stick in her dreams. She was thrilled to find the walking stick she wanted, but Griff had an odd feeling when he saw it. The life they knew changed forever after going home with this old walking stick.

The tragedy surrounding the walking stick is scary and different people were connected to it in a unique way. The story was packed with action and had me on the edge of my seat. With long-time friends and a wannabe detective, it could not be otherwise. They needed to find Detective Clay Hawkins, who they believed stalked and wanted to hurt Abby. The characters were well developed and unique each in their own way. Abby lacked patience and her best friend, Olivia, had an infectious smile. The characters were introduced in such a way that I felt I knew them and they are old friends of mine. I was surprised by the end; it was unexpected. I enjoyed reading Slipping Into Darkness by D.M. Bourgeois. It was very interesting and at times very scary.
