Author Biography

Mark Smith lives in a small town in the Midwest and has enjoyed the creative outlet of writing since a young age.

The author's Somewhat Silly Stories were originally written as a silly romp through a land of adventure for the author's young nieces and nephews. Now they have been rewritten and edited for a general release, aimed at other children like the author's 11 year old son and for those young at heart.

Colorful descriptions and absurd humor aim for a compelling story that pushes the reader's imagination, increases vocabulary, and urges the reluctant reader.

Sir Nathan and the Clammy Calamity (Somewhat Silly Stories) (Volume 3) by Mark Simon Smith is a fantasy/adventure story with lots of excitement. A whale, Kale, comes to Mariskatania and tries to flood the place. He is upset because their litter is going into the sea. Sir Nathan, the local hero, is called in to stop the flooding.

This book is filled with humor and adventure. Everyone - starting from Sir Nathan to the squirrels to the spoiled princess Abbey to Kale - wants to be a hero in the adventure. The book has a message which is inspiring and motivating. The black and white illustrations are delightful. I wish the author had more in the story. Illustrations always breathe life into a story, making it more appealing to the reader. The characters are all very creatively named and presented, highlighting the inventive mind of the author.

Stories of fantasy and adventure are very popular among children. All the imaginary names and details transport them to another world. These kinds of stories also ignite a young reader's imagination. The humorous angle makes the story lighter. Messages in children's story books are ideal because it is always easy to convey. The message that courage comes from within you and one requires just a heart to have that feeling of courage is what adds to the greatness of the book.
