Sing the Planets by Bonnie Ferrante is an enjoyable, educational children's book. The book teaches a song and dance to help children remember the planets. It also shows pictures of the planets and gives facts about each planet, like what the planet is sometimes called and who the planet was named after. The song is the theme of a well known children's song and is very memorable, and the actions look fun to do. It is the perfect book to help teach children about the planets of the solar system.
I really enjoyed Sing the Planets. I liked how the book had the musical notes so that you could play the song on a piano or other musical instrument. I also liked how it wasn't just the song and actions, but it also informed the reader about the mythological figure it was named after, and why it was named after the figure. The actions all made sense, because it demonstrates who the planet was named after, for example it would have the action 'punch' for the planet Mars, named after the god of war, or the 'you're out' action to represent the outer planets. The illustrations are well done and the photos are really cool. It also teaches about Pluto, why it isn't a planet anymore, and when it was 'declassified' as a planet. I would recommend this book to any child who would like to learn about the planets.
