The forest was always filled with the hum of fairy wings but the children of Croffield's Children's Home were allowed into the woods only once a year and it was their annual Christmas tree excursion. Shining Wings McClaire thought the Children's Home was not the right place for children living there, though they were looked after very well. On that special day when she took the children into the forest, she wanted to make it a shimmering, glimmering, and sparkling burst of blossoming color that the children would enjoy. Every year her Merry Makers gathered to make it a memorable experience for the children. Let's join the children of Croffield's Children's Home on their trip to the woods and enjoy the merriment and enchantment of the Christmas wonderland along with them.
Shining Wings McClaire and the Merry Makers by Leafy Forest is a whimsical and fantastical adventure into the forest where children see fairies spinning up to the skies, a toast to Miss Penelope, the new headmistress who was always getting the children home-baked sweets and little toys, and other festivities that will leave them bedazzled and excited. Mari Hanekom captivates young readers with her magical illustrations and breathes life into the story. She also captures the author's imagination and dreamy qualities through the wonderful pictures and makes the excursion into the woods memorable and exhilarating. The story captures the essence and spirit of the Christmas season beautifully and parents can give this book as a Christmas gift.
