Logging camp
Outside of Seattle Washington
Spring 1866
Julianne Maxwell fled New York all the way to Seattle to become a mail order bride, only to arrive at the logging camp to find out the man she was to marry is already married. He wants her to pay back the money he sent her. Only one problem, she never received any money. Did her uncle intercept the letters and take the money out of them?
He tries to auction her off like cattle at a Saturday farm sale to try and get his money back.. When the boss interrupts what is going on , he nips it in the bud and says there will be a contest. Winner gets Julianne.
Caleb Hansen has problems of his own. His sister died in childbirth, and he is raising his nephew. Julianne would fill the need as a mother for the baby.
As they get married, can she trust Caleb? What about Julianne? What does Caleb know about her? Did she receive the money and lie about it? Can she raise enough money doing laundry without Caleb’s knowledge to pay back the debt that Caleb paid? Can this marriage survive? They may have their plans, but God has better plans. Will Julianne be honest with Caleb in order to make the marriage work?
This was a marvelous read, and it just goes to show that no matter what we plan , God has something better for our lives if we would just listen.
