"Shark vs Train" by Chris Barton and narrated by Bryan Kennedy is the tale of a toy shark, a toy train and two boys with large imaginations. The shark and the train are in constant battle with each winning in their own elements. But what would happen if the battle took place in a lemonade stand? The shark was too big for the lemonade tank so train won that battle. Who would roast the best marshmallows? Who can eat the most pies? Who can burp the loudest? Who would win the battle if they were on motorcycles or when they perform at a piano recital? Diving, collecting candy, playing basketball, bowling, riding rides at the Carnival, playing games and hide n go seek, who can claim the titles of the best? Who is the coolest, toughest, most reckless? Who is the greatest, shark or train?
The plot for this book is zany, entertaining, silly, and lovable! I am sure children will love this story as a picture book but it does not lend its self well to the audio format. My suggestion would be to package the book and audio together so that children could listen to the book as they look at the pictures. When asked to review this book I was only given the audio version alone and it lacked something. With the hard copy of the book, children aged 3 to 5 will adore this story. The author is very imaginative and has created an excellent and original plot.
