Shadow House is a young adult sci-fi novel by A.R. Silverberry. Teenagers must endure a rite of passage through the House in a futuristic dystopian world called New Earth. But not everyone comes back. Eighteen-year-old Johari Hightower has had a troubled life, growing up in the foster system. After the son of a wealthy man frames him for stealing his expensive car, the Supreme Council sentences Johari to elimination. With no other choice left for freedom, Johari sneaks into the House uninvited alongside three other ceremonial teens, Greta Orngold, Brice Bernhard, and Calista Morra. Now, the four youngsters must find a way back within 24 hours. However, they will face terrifying horrors and traumatic memories from their pasts. Will they let petty rivalries get in their way? Can Johari save the one he loves?
A.R. Silverberry delivers an absolute pageturner with The Shadow House Chronicles. Gripping and unpredictable from start to finish, Shadow House hasn't a single dull moment, binding you to your seat with a potent brew of sci-fi, horror, fantasy, romance, and many thrills. The captivating narrative aside, there were times when I had no idea how the plot was going, as the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. The inter-relationship dynamics between Johari and his little group make the characters shine and ensure they leave a mark on the reader. I am invested in Johari and Greta's storyline and look forward to reading the sequels. If you're into sci-fi mystery and horror, Shadow House is just the book you need.
