See You Soon by Ms. Dilraz Kunnummal is an amazing, useful children’s book that contains practical ideas for mothers and children experiencing separation anxiety. While the thought of leaving a child with a care provider and going to work can be a daunting experience for many mothers, the story shows how mothers and children can deal with the anxiety in a healthy way. In the story, the day comes when Mama is separated from her little one as he begins to go to school. As she works, her son gets to learn and interact with other children who also love to share their mothers’ occupations. The little one’s grandparents and his nanny also help take good care of him. Each day is filled with exciting and heart-warming activities.
The book is resourceful and well-written. See You Soon contains insightful tips such as how a mother can help their child look forward to their nursery school experience by sharing positive stories and talking about the new arrangements that will occur. I loved that the advice is not only insightful but also practical. The tips suggested can be utilized by any mother/guardian and child, regardless of their background or culture. I also loved that the story addresses both the mother’s and child’s concerns with regard to separation. The illustrations are bright and full of color, showing that school can be a happy, positive experience for children and mothers. The tone used for the story is calm and joyful. See You Soon by Dilraz Kunnummal is an encouraging and helpful book for mothers and children dealing with separation anxiety.
