A line of paranormal guardians enters back into the battle to close the breach of a historically malevolent haunted house. C.J. Weiss introduces us to the Renaults, who are professionals when it comes to the supernatural, but this breach is in dangerous proportions. Secrets Gnaw at the Flesh reveals how the risk increases as secrets are revealed that threaten to divide the family. Marie Renault rejects the offer of her fiancé Garrett Mueller, explaining about the haunted house that he would have to take a blood oath to return to help stop the world of the dead from endangering the planet. Will Garrett help to tip the scales in their favor, or will they hurtle to their demise?
The cover of C. J. Weiss’s Secrets Gnaw at the Flesh is so eerie that I had to check it out. The picture sets the tone for what this book has in store. The tangled web of deception of the secrets that they kept from each other is enough to drive anyone mad. I have never experienced this level of anxiety and fear for the characters that this book evoked in me. I got a very important reminder that honesty truly is the best policy. I was enlightened about the possibilities and abilities of the paranormal. I absolutely loved the glossary at the end of the book that helped me understand in more detail. I am forever moved by this brilliant work of horror and would love to see it as a movie.
