Seasons by Maria Koval is a most exceptional book written from a new mother's heart. The author opens the door to herself and her memories of when she became pregnant and had twins at the same time as fighting mental health. The author suffers from depression and has her whole life. Her explanation of what happens in your brain opens a whole new world to the reader and reveals that it is not just a matter of “getting over it.” Even today when we are more aware of mental illness, people still say, “Get over yourself; you are not the first person to have a breakdown.” It is soul-destroying. The author brings the reader into her home after the birth of her twins and, with the help of her husband, she manages her mental health. Nothing is sugar-coated, and nothing is hidden. The reader will discover that this book brings a whole new way of thinking to light. The reader will find help within these pages for things they did not know they suffered from or needed help with.
In Seasons by Maria Koval, the author brings humor into her story but a passage in her book brought the message home: “Love is not death. Love is not a sacrifice. Love is not reproaches and humiliation. Love does not fight and scream. Love is not something you can say in a couple of words. Love can be silent. Love is life. Love is a choice. Love is warmth and happiness, Love is immense. Love is deeper than the ocean.” This passage will make the reader understand the very end of the book, which is so profound that it will make them realize that they are not alone in their thoughts and feelings. This is a book that the reader will want to read more than once and will keep handy even after their children have grown. The waiting never stops. Even at my age, I am still waiting to find my time and myself. It is a book well worth reading and the ending is very significant and beautiful. I want to thank Maria Koval for writing this beautiful story and sharing it with the world. It is very brave of her. Thank you, Maria, for allowing me to read about your journey through your pregnancy and your first year with your children.
