A sea child sat on a large rock in the middle of a shallow cove. She loved sitting there and relaxing. Many sea otters came there to eat, play, and rest, and that place was called Sea Otter Cove. They also knew it was a great place to rest, relax, and warm their bodies. The sea child loved closing her eyes and listening to the sound of the sea otters playing in the waves. She felt connected to the center of the earth, safe and anchored. One of the sea otters was curious and he loved to hide behind the rock and watch the sea child whenever she came for a visit. That particular day he decided to come out of his hiding place and lay down next to her. The sea child taught him a special breathing technique.
Sea Otter Cove by Lori Lite offers a way of 'introducing relaxation breathing to lower anxiety, decrease stress and control anger while promoting peaceful sleep.’ This is a wonderful story that teaches young readers how relaxation breathing works and is good when it comes to making them aware of breathing and breathing techniques. The illustrations by Max Stasuyk make the concept clear to readers and it is a good technique to practice, especially if experiencing tension and stress. The story also helps readers to understand the importance of being connected to the Universe. It is a good book to read aloud in classrooms and at home, and youngsters can even practice the breathing patterns along with the sea child and the sea otters to send out a pulse of calmness around them.
