I consider myself lucky because I was raised in a family that valued learning. By the time I entered kindergarten, I knew how to read, print, and write in cursive. Bedtime stories were a mainstay, and trips to the local library were as common as those to the grocery store. I couldn’t have known then, but they were instrumental in my becoming a writer.
On a snowy, Minnesota afternoon, I curled my eleven-year-old self next to the heat register and read Grimm’s Fairy Tales cover to cover. I devoured the stories of castles, princesses, and the rescuing knights on horseback. Looking back, I think that afternoon was a pivotal moment in my life. Those stories sparked my imagination, but they waited, poised and ready, until I was ready to call upon them for inspiration.
I’m ready now, writing historical fiction stories that I hope will find their way into the hands of an eager reader, ready to embark on an adventure that I’ve imagined, crafted, and tucked between the covers.

Scotland’s Knight: The Rose in the Glade by Anne K. Hawkinson and Paul V. Hunter brings us the story of two people of very different personalities fighting to secure their love and passion for each other. It is set in medieval times when knights went to war in far-off lands, only to come back filled with guilt, hate, and disgust and haunted by nightmares. Sir Lennox Brodie is one such knight plagued by his past. Suffering the devastating loss of his wife and their two daughters, he appears to be a harsh, frightening man that many avoid, afraid of his actions. On a market day at Castle Wrought in Stonehaven, Scotland, he sees a beautiful young woman called Maggie, the daughter of a local shop owner. Sir Lennox Brodie is intent on making the acquaintance of the 19-year-old Maggie. Pain, sorrow, and mistaken understandings hinder their future. Will things work out for them? Enjoy this story as it reveals secrets, emotions, and customs.
The authors of Scotland’s Knight bring a wonderful world of romantic drama and historical excellence together in one beautifully well thought out story. Whilst not fast and action-packed, it is a read that makes you aware of feelings of hatred, compassion, and justice. Justice becomes all-important and a happy life ever after becomes your own personal goal for its main characters. It is apparent that the authors' knowledge of the era in which this story is based is very well understood and adds greatly to the detail. The romantic element only enhances this excellent book. You will be left in no doubt who the guilty and innocent are and feeling you would have loved to be part of the story. Both romance and historical fiction readers will enjoy this lovely story.
