Salvation is a work of fiction in the science fiction subgenre and it serves as the seventh installment in the Globur Incursion series. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by author D Rebbitt. The book continues to chronicle the battle against the Globur after decades of conflict, this time with the focus being on the effort to regain control of the Mongolia system. As the marines fight to regain control of the capital and the strategically critical spaceport, something more sinister is brewing as the Senate sends a team to investigate the secrets being kept by members of the fleet.
Seven books into a series, authors always run the risk of staleness, as many of them settle into a formula for success that they try to repeat endlessly, but not so here. Author D Rebbitt refuses to rest on their laurels after six exciting installments and manages to continue producing entries in the series that feel fresh and dynamic. Now with their backs against the wall, as their backup is stretched to breaking point, the fight of the marines feels so desperate that readers will taste the anxiety as they follow the exciting battle to liberate Ulaan. The development of the political intrigue was an excellent aspect of the book which allowed the narrative to shift between two equally tense but tonally unique plots. Overall, Salvation is a masterclass in keeping a long-running series feeling as fresh as it did in its opening installment with new directions for the characters, new angles for the action, and new story beats for this long-running saga.
