Michael J. Bowler's Running Through A Dark Place - Children of the Knight II (The Knight Cycle) (Volume 2) is the continuation of the first volume which left the reader shocked, but also filled with hope. The first book had a rather bitter-sweet ending. Volume 2 starts immediately after the events in the first book, so readers should definitely read Volume 1 first. Please do NOT read this review if you have not read Volume 1, as there will be spoilers ahead (or skip paragraph 2 to avoid spoilers).
In Volume 2, Arthur and his knights are still in shock about Lance's death, yet the appearance of Merlin and a brave and sad sacrifice by the boy who loves Lance the most, leads to the miracle of Lance coming back to life. And the whole world witnesses the miraculous rebirth. This naturally leads to the formation of sects, to worshippers, to haters, and to an increased amount of publicity (which will attract some unwanted attention by someone with very bad motives). Will Lance be able to be the leader he needs to be, while living with something he did not want to live with?
When I stumbled across Michael. J Bowler's Running Through A Dark Place while browsing books to read, my eyes immediately lit up because I remembered the first volume in the Knight Cycle. I downloaded the book, sat down to read, and read the whole book in one sitting (with short breaks in between). I was in a bad mood before I read the book, and desperately needed a lift - the book gave me that and so much more. Just like the first volume in the cycle, this book is not only beautifully written, but also touches the reader on a deeper level. It's not just entertainment, but a story that changes your outlook on life. It is a story that explores the depth of human madness and hate, but also the depth and beauty of the various types of love. Such a fantastic book!
