Runnin’ With the Devil by John Stimson is a brilliantly conceived story of the robbing of a casino on the busiest day of the year in St. Charles, MO. The participants and mastermind of the heist think they have all the answers and all the pitfalls covered; however, they soon learn that nothing ever goes the way it is supposed to. Charlie has worked for the casino for a long time and has carefully watched the path that the money takes from the table he deals at to the cage where it is locked away. Charlie is now ready to move ahead with his plan and he contacts Drew, a man who has spent many years in jail and is currently out on parole. So begins the gathering of their crew. Preston, Myrick, Lynette, Sam, and Brett are the rest of the cast, adding both expertise and problems. Arnie Gattuso is the big-time boss of the mafia and he also adds interest to the story. The day of the robbery finally is here and all of the players know their roles and are ready to go. Soon there is a gun battle, both the good and bad guys getting shot at, car chases, get-aways, and more going on all at once.
I really enjoyed reading Runnin’ With the Devil by John Stimson - it is everything the description claimed and more. I have been to St. Charles, MO many times and the accuracy of the area made it seem even more real. John Stimson has written Runnin’ With the Devil in such a way that made me think, ‘Hmm, I wonder if this ever happened.’ I read instead of doing my chores and way past my bedtime to find out if they were successful in the heist. The ending's twists and turns make a perfect finish to a truly good crime story. I highly recommend this book for all fans of crime and punishment genres.
