Gangs rule the city, and the God-fearing Independents are the only ones brave enough to defy them in this riveting young adult post-apocalyptic novel, Ride to Daylight by Alyssa Thiessen. Robyn has been in charge of her six-year-old sister since all technology came to a screeching halt two years ago. The gangs took control of the city of River Ridge, and the residents live in fear of them. Since mechanical transportation is obsolete, bikes are a coveted possession. However, only two factions have them; the gangs and the Independents. When Robyn takes one from a dying Independent, her life takes a drastic turn. Spotted by Nate, a member of the local gang, the Grims, Robyn must do his bidding or there will be dire consequences. Unexpectedly, Nate does not turn Robyn over to the Grims but instead has her riding with an Independent. Unfortunately, the gang discovers Nate's involvement with Robyn and the Independents, and they all must run for their lives. But where can they go? Do they have any hope of surviving?

Ride to Daylight by Alyssa Thiessen is an exciting dystopian post-apocalyptic novel with the undertones of a Christian theme. This is an amazing novel! It is an exhilarating and breathtaking adventure, where the precepts of unconditional love bring hope to those lost in a world of anarchy. Skillfully written, the story and characters are fully developed and engaging. The plot flows at a brisk pace, building a compelling story arc. Brimming with action, suspense, and drama, the story comes to an electrifying conclusion. Young adults who enjoy inspirational books based on redemption and faith in God in the most trying times will not want to miss this post-apocalyptic thriller.

Ride to Daylight by Alyssa Thiessen introduces Robyn Kinely, who remembers the time before the Pulse, the time when riding a mountain bike meant freedom. The reality now is vastly different, with only those who stand against the violence that rules riding. When a sudden decision gives Robyn a bike, she must make an alliance with a complete stranger. Will the alliance work out? Or will Robyn have risked everything only to end up in a disaster?

Like Robyn, I remember that feeling of freedom when you have a bike. I can’t imagine suddenly being unable to ride my bike because gangs use them for control. This book drew me in from the start; the fact that Robyn was not only keeping herself alive but her sister as well really struck a chord with me. I am an older sister too, and I know I would do the same things Robyn does to stay safe.

Nate, oh well, he is a typical bad boy, who might not be all that bad once you get to know him. It took me a while to warm up to him. I mean Robyn was basically forced to make the alliance she did with him. The chemistry between the two, however, was enjoyable from the start. The flow of this book is good, the run for the dawn is intense! This lovely story is not your typical young adult dystopian book. It has a fresh concept and breathes something new into the genre. Overall, two thumbs up on this one. This book is a great read, perfect for quarantine or anytime!

Ride To Daylight is a work of fiction in the dystopian and religious-themed sub-genres and was written for young adults by author Alyssa Thiessen. Our central protagonist is Robyn Kinley, who has lived through the dangerous time of the Pulse, and now sees only violence and disarray on the streets around her. Those riders who call themselves the Independents police the streets of River Ridge City and try to purge it of its violent gangs. So when Robyn comes into possession of a bike of her own, she finds herself in the presence of former gang member Nate Cooper, and a new life begins as a rider, along with its many dangers.

Author Alyssa Thiessen has crafted a Christian science fiction and dystopian tale which is sure to be highly engaging and filled with thrills for its young adult audience. I was impressed by the moral message, which enhances rather than detracts from the central plotline, and inspires the central protagonist Robyn to have faith and courage in the position which life has thrown at her. The atmospheric descriptions of the post-Pulse world are also excellently penned, revealing a dark and dingy world with danger at every corner, one which is sure to keep readers turning pages. Robyn and Nate have an interesting dynamic and I enjoyed the development of their relationship, filled with intrigues and evocative personal moments. Overall, I would highly recommend Ride To Daylight for those seeking an uplifting but still exciting and engaging YA Christian read.
