Ribby's Secret: A Psychological Domestic Thriller Novel by Cathy McGough is the story of a woman as she tries to fight what she is and what she has become. Ribby is alone, she is not really someone who is confident in her skin and she is painfully shy. Out of her mind with sadness and fatigue, Ribby becomes Angela. While Ribby is unsure and a little hesitant, Angela is bold, opinionated and complicated. Before she knows it, Angela is taking over Ribby’s life and, sooner than she realizes, her whole life is being turned upside down by her second personality. Ribby has to control the damage being done to her life by her other self, but does she really want to? Does she really want to stop Angela or does she want Angela to take over her life for good?
Ribby's Secret is a dark, psychological thriller that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat and refusing to put it down until you have reached the end. The contrast between Ribby and Angela is like night and day. Author Cathy McGough has executed the idea of having two personalities in one body perfectly. She kept the tension; she allowed the suspense to fester and made sure the reader was in the moment with Ribby/Angela all the time. I was surprised by the situations Ribby/Angela was in; their story was complicated and very different from each other. The narrative is befitting of a dark theme like this. I enjoyed how the author gave Ribby and Angela different personalities and made them believable. The story was complicated, it was intense and it had me biting my nails. You will hear the characters, you will understand their fears and you will live their lives with them. Cathy McGough did a great job of foreshadowing information and hiding little hints for readers to find. To say I just enjoyed this incredible story would be an understatement because it was simply out of this world. I loved it!
