Rescue Mission With My STEM Invention by Sumita Mukherjee is an engaging story about a group of children who are preparing to work on science projects for the annual school science fair. Twin sisters who always compete in the science fair but never really do their own work have stolen a project that is specifically designed to clean an oil spill from water so it will not do more harm to the local wildlife and environment. With their project stolen, how will the group come up with a new idea in time to win the contest? Will the twins sabotage them again?
Rescue Mission With My STEM Invention by Sumita Mukherjee is a wonderful short story for kids that has a well planned plot. The believable characters are well described and easy to identify with as they go through the motions of scientific thinking, building their projects for the contest, and learning how important it is to work hard and never try to take credit for someone else’s accomplishments. I love how Mukherjee delivered such an important message using a scientific angle that not only encourages good behavior, but will also help encourage children to think more critically about how their actions can affect others. I recommend Rescue Mission With My STEM Invention to be added to a reading list for children. I hope to see many more books from Sumita Mukherjee like this one that will surely help guide them as they grow into strong, independent adolescents and adults.
