Remember to Water the Trees is a work of fiction in the nature and family life subgenres. It is written for children aged around three to nine years and contains text and illustrations by author-artist Chris Johnson. In this charming story filled with atmosphere, heart, and duty, we learn about the relationship between a father and son during their road trip. As the scenery changes outside the car window, the father imparts knowledge to his son about the wonders of nature, and how it is our duty to be its stewards and respect the planet, keeping it beautiful for the next generation. What results is a heartfelt tale that all generations of the family can enjoy reading together.
Author and artist Chris Johnson delivers a superb work of fiction and art all in one in this utterly charming book. The pages are a visual feast, with striking illustrations that spark the imagination and are sure to inspire parents and guardians to read with a great atmosphere for younger readers. The dialogue-style narrative encourages independent readers to get used to direct speech and could be fun for two children to read together as they do the different characters’ voices. The message itself is beautiful and heartfelt, and it's wonderful to see such complex topics as respect for nature and stewardship delivered in a really accessible and inspiring way to the next generation. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Remember to Water the Trees to young readers and their families everywhere.
