Although the title may indicate that Reiki Elementals: A Concise Student Handbook by Kami Hall Carrillo is a book that can teach reiki, that is not the author’s intent. The author is a reiki teacher who wrote this book for students to provide background and supplementary information and a brief history of reiki. As the author says, if you want to learn reiki, you must go to a reiki teacher and receive “an attunement.” The book mentions 3 attunements. The first teaches you to play with the reiki energy. The second teaches you to use it to heal. And the third enables you to become a reiki teacher. This book has pictures of some of the hand positions and talks about how they are associated with chakras.
You can meet reiki teachers in person, on the internet, and through books. The author of this book is a reiki teacher who prefers to teach in person, and who wrote this book for students who want an in-person teacher. The function of this book is to explain the history of reiki and how a reiki session is conducted. It also lists the benefits of reiki attunements, which are the energy treatments that enable the recipient to handle the reiki energy. The information in Reiki Elementals: A Concise Student Handbook by Kami Hall Carrillo is all at the introductory level and in many ways is unique to the background of the author. Many reiki practitioners don’t work with chakras, or use incense, or crystals. If you are looking for basic introductory information about reiki and its earliest teachers, this book is useful.
