Reginald P. Howard (Reggie) is a self-proclaimed freelance illustrator who has been drawing for the love of art for over 40 years. Born in Amarillo, Texas in 1963, Reginald is the fifth of six siblings. This fun bunch is the offspring of Nona and Olin Howard, who still reside in Beavercreek, Ohio today. Aside from a few drawing classes in high school, Reggie’s drawing stems from being self-taught and self-refined. Today, he draws with much more purpose and meaning with publishing this book and, as an illustrator for a series of children’s books that his wife has authored recently.
Reggie has drawn freelance for a long time; however, his wife suggested, “instead of just drawing and doodling in your art book, why not package it up in the form of a book for others to see and enjoy?” Why not, he says.

When you live in Reggie’s house, there is never a dull moment. From finding a way around Daddy’s unconventional ideas about raising the boys to be tough, right up to the occasional dabble with mischief, Reggie somehow always finds himself close to the action. The one thing he has learned in all his escapades is that speed is often not necessarily your friend. In the spirit of sharing, Reginald P. Howard puts together a delightfully hilarious compilation of what can go wrong when engaging in shenanigans on the domestic front. His collection of short stories revolving around actual events is aptly titled Reggie: Slow and Steady Wins the Race.
Reginald P. Howard gives us a glimpse into the way the interesting dynamics of his family life created the author we know today. His stories are short, brutally funny, and extremely relatable. One interesting aspect of this collection is the way Howard presents his narrative, starting with an innocent tone. Just when the reader starts to get an idea of what kind of mischief is brewing, he lets the very colorful pictures do the rest of the storytelling. This template works wonders for the over a dozen stories in Reggie. From dealing with the deceptive ways our parents get us to eat vegetables to coping with the antics of that younger sibling everyone loves to hate, there is a story here to take every reader down memory lane. Despite giving the impression of a book targeted at children, Reggie is certain to bring a smile to the faces of readers of all ages.
