Author Biography

My name is Paula Grover and I am the author of "Reflections of a Feline Being." I wrote and re-wrote this little novelette over a period of years, first on a fiction site and more recently as a book on Amazon.
From the time I was a child, I have always enjoyed writing and reading stories that are told from the point of view of an animal, such as "Black Beauty" by Anna Sewell and "Beautiful Joe" by Margaret Marshall Sanders.
The story of Miaurra was inspired by the many cats and dogs that have accompanied me on parts of my life journey. I have learned a great deal from them, about acceptance and adjusting to the evolving circumstances of life. I have watched the interactions between some older cats, who are accustomed to living solo with their humans, and the energetic young kittens that jump naively into their territories. "Reflections of a Feline Being" is the story of an older cat, Miaurra, who must adjust to the two new creatures that dare to enter into her den.

A humorous and imaginative children’s story with important lessons, Reflections of a Feline Being by Paula Grover follows the daily life of a cat who lives with a group of rowdy humans in her den. Miaurra shares her home with a couple and their two children. She considers the adults better trained to serve her every need, unlike the juveniles, but still struggles to be patient with them. Miaurra often wakes up from the children’s poking which she dislikes. One day, something worse happens. A foul-smelling box arrives and a kitten emerges from it. Miaurra is immediately incensed by what she considers the invasion of her space. As Miaurra tries to adjust to sharing her den with another feline, yet another invader arrives. Miaurra struggles to let go of her beliefs and embrace her new family.

The story features an amusing set of characters that children will love. I appreciated that it is written from Miaurra’s intriguing perspective and I enjoyed her interactions with the other animals. There were unexpected scenes included which made the story even more exciting. Children will be drawn in by the lovely, straightforward illustrations and will enjoy singing the song included at the end. The book’s language is accessible to young readers and its descriptions of the scenes and characters included are captivating. The valuable lessons about the importance of family and community woven into the story are helpful to both adults and children. An original story with fascinating characters and practical lessons, Reflections of a Feline Being by Paula Grover is a children’s story that will be a wonderful addition to every child’s library.
