In Rebirth of the Gangster Act 3: A Family Affair by CJ Standal, some twists occur along the way. The plot starts getting hotter as revelations come to light. Linda tries once more to prevent her son Hunter, the main antagonist, from doing something he might regret. In the meantime, Detective Sanchez finds herself in trouble with her girlfriend again as she prioritizes work above their relationship. Marcus Thompson, the protagonist, is conflicted when he meets with Sanchez who shows him a revealing photo as she tries to solve the mounting number of murder cases. Another recently-released prisoner, Mr. Smith, enters the lives of the antagonists. He turns out to be the more violent type. Finally, we see Dennis reluctantly entering a life of crime again, but he manages to resist. He is determined to maintain a positive relationship with his teacher girlfriend and eventually says no to his criminal peers.
Rebirth of the Gangster Act 3 by CJ Standal uses the same winning formula as was applied in the first two graphic novels of this series. Why change what works? Standal's intense dialogue is depicted beautifully through the art of Juan Romera. As before, we see the action translated through well-structured graphics using appropriate facial expressions and body language in each scene. The comic may be black and white, but the pictures are powerful enough to highlight the intricate plot. Once again the plot impressed me and the story managed to stay intriguing. In Act 3, the characters reveal their complex backgrounds through shocking disclosures. The biggest highlight in this installment of the Rebirth of the Gangster series is the explanation of how Marcus's grandfather died. I would readily recommend this comic series.
