Several reasons cause students to drop out of college. When Ezella McPherson was going through issues, including grief, even her counselor encouraged her to drop out. This shows not only the importance of having mentors but also advisors who are competent and resilient in helping students. Having dropped out of college two years ago, I related quite strongly to the message in Real Outreach by Ezella McPherson. Many students drop out of college for reasons that can easily be addressed. I loved the tone Ezella adopted, which made the book very effective in passing on the intended message. The unique perspective offered, such as the challenges faced by first-generation college students and other minority groups, will go a long way toward opening the eyes of many policymakers and academicians. I also loved the examples Ezella provided, which show that this is not just some theoretical work but something that has been tried and has yielded results. I look forward to reading more by this author.
