Raiding the Empire of the Sun: Tinian 1945 by Kit Crumpton is a compelling historical story that takes readers on a rollicking ride through the events of WWII, a setting that comes across in the novel with vivid clarity. Based on the true experiences of a B-29 crew, this novel captures the pulse of life on Tinian Island and the skyline throughout the period of the war. Readers are introduced to very memorable characters and invited to follow a piece of history as witnessed by the people of a little island. It’s an intense, impassioned, and well-crafted work of entertainment.
Fans of historical novels will find a lot of entertainment in Kit Crumpton’s novel, a story that develops the theme of war brilliantly, exploring relationships, the hopes and despair of a people, and an unusual hero in the process. The prose is wonderful, featuring powerful descriptions that bring the setting to life, capturing scenes vividly, and treating readers to great insightful passages. The author has the singular gift of making readers feel as though they were experiencing this part of the war. The story is well-paced and it has strong and powerful moments, loaded with intense actions and emotions. Beyond the art of telling the story, the author does a great job in exploring the culture of the people. The writing is crisp and balanced, and I enjoyed the author’s brilliant use of dialogue, combining it beautifully with the descriptive prose to create an enjoyable reading experience. Raiding the Empire of the Sun: Tinian 1945 is a gem, a story with strong historical references and memorable characters. Highly entertaining!
