There are many books on improving communication that focus on active listening and communication techniques. However, Radical Alignment: How to Have Game-Changing Conversations That Will Transform Your Business and Your Life by Alexandra Jamieson and Bob Gower goes beyond the usual recommendations for effective communication. That title includes a big promise, "Will Transform," and it delivers with a unique formula that can be used to improve business and personal relationships and achieve goals in both realms.
In preparation for the formula they present, the authors remind us of the problems that prevent effective communication, followed by the introduction of their All-In-Method (AIM). In addition, it is important to prepare the group in advance of having an important conversation before utilizing a formula to communicate in a very productive manner. The AIM formula has four elements, which I will include in sharing my thoughts on reviewing this book:
1. Intentions—My intention after having read the book is to communicate to the public my honest opinion and recommend it to others to read if merited. My choices in books are those that have an impact on people personally and professionally, and my hope in reading books is to find those gems I can recommend.
2. Concerns—I want to provide a review that will fairly assess the book. After reading the book I choose, if it will help others in their lives, I want to write a review that encourages others to read it. If I don’t feel it is a book I would recommend, I would decline the review as I don’t want to recommend a book I didn’t feel is valuable to others. Since you are reading this review, it is obviously one that I feel will benefit others.
3. Boundaries—I need to focus on the main points that can benefit the reader in my review and keep it within a limited size review, being as concise as possible while bringing my main points in an understandable written format.
4. Dreams—If the book is one worth recommending, which this one is, I will feel good if others can benefit from using the formula effectively in their own business and personal lives. I am hoping others read my review and consider reading the book themselves so they can also benefit.
The authors stress the importance that each participant in the discussion shares their AIM thoughts and the final consensus document be prepared so that there is a shared agreement. They show examples of how the AIM Formula can be used in a variety of personal and professional situations, which make it easier to understand. Radical Alignment by Alexandra Jamieson and Bob Gower provides a very practical, easy to read, and valuable book for readers to utilize in their personal and professional lives. I hope my review will encourage others to adopt the AIM Formula in their own lives. Recommended!
