For decades American women have been living beyond their means and buying things, often on credit, that are nothing more than a luxury. In Purses, Pearls & Pumps: Straight Talk About Women and Finances, Bonita Vinson PhD talks about the end result of living in luxury when they can’t afford it and offers advice for overcoming this powerful grip that has a choke-hold on their finances. She proposes three basic questions and then offers the answers to them. How did we get this way? What can we do to fix the problem? What will it take to change? Bonita then covers the financial myths that often lead to the extravagant overspending lifestyle and gives sound advice on how to cut those tightly wrapped cords which are holding us back from financial freedom. Using stories from her own struggles and those of women that she has helped coach, she clearly and concisely lays out a pattern to follow and practical means for rising above those struggles.

There is hope even for the most ruthless offender in Bonita Vinson’s book. With a delicate, but straight forward approach, Bonita will coach you toward a lifestyle that is much more practical and offers a great deal more freedom. Informative, encouraging and no-nonsense, Purses, Pearls & Pumps: Straight Talk About Women and Finances is precisely what American women, who find themselves trapped in a financial struggle, need to get them back on track and breathing a sigh of relief.

"Purses, Pearls, and Pumps: Straight Talk about Women and Finances" by Bonita Vinson was definitely an eye opener. Often times, we as women spend money on things beyond on our means. Clothes, shoes, makeup, expensive trips...these are just some of the things that we spend our money on while not realizing that we are putting ourselves into a financial bind. This book talks about getting yourself out of debt while using real life situations to do so. It doesn't matter if you are a single parent (like myself, single, married, whatever the case may be, this book is for you! Bonita Vinson did not sugarcoat a thing as she talks about financial responsibility and how to make your money situation work for you. I enjoyed this book and will definitely recommend to family members and friends.

This book is powerful! I wish I'd had this information years ago. I recommend it to all women who really want to have a turnaround in their finances. You certainly will if you follow the instructions given in this book. It's insightful, relevant, and thought provoking. So glad I have it and I plan to get copies for both my daughters!

Motivated!!

I just finished reading this book and really enjoyed it!. It's a quick read, pretty straight and too the point and very motivating! I wanted to get out of debt before and this gave me the nice nudge I needed toward taking it more serious, buckling down and finally getting it done. It also provides a nice frame work to help you get started with the process. Great book!

Wish I had read this years ago! I am not a purse person, but I own my fair share of pumps and other items that left me broke at the end of the month despite earning a decent salary. If I had read Vinson's book years ago, all of my hard-earned cash could have went toward more meaningful things (as well as to prepare for my retirement, sigh.....). Vinson talks candidly about the real reason so many women shop and waste money and how to let go of long-held attitudes and behaviors that leave us with plenty of "stuff" but not what we really need. All women should read this book--even those who consider themselves pretty good savers because it really is an eye-opener.

Either it's you or you know who needs this book!

Purses, Pearls & Pumps: Straight Talk About Women & Finances gets to the nitty gritty of some of the nonsense women subscribe to in the name of vanity and keeping up with the Jones/Harris'/Johnsons and Garcia's! If you use payday loans and have no savings account, you brag about your Coach bag that's loaded with maxed out credit cards and no cash (and no saving) then you need to get this book. If you know this girl, buy it for her. But get it and get right for 2014 and beyond.

Last note: If you're over 35, living with someone, own nothing and are sick and tired of being sick and tired of your situation - GET THE BOOK, apply the principles and start living your life to it's fullest!
