Lately, Krista has been plagued by visions and an odd sense of deja vu everywhere she goes in Promised Soul. It only gets worse as she heads to England for her intended summer break. There she meets Aaron, a figure straight from her visions. The only problem is that he doesn't remember her when she seems to know him inside and out. Promised Soul is a little bit of historical, a lot of romance, and a little bit of science fiction as it has elements of all three genres. However, tying all the genres together is a relentless pursuit of character development on Sandra J. Jackson's part.
The romance between Krista and Aaron (or should I say Mary and Thomas?) was sweet, yet full of heat and earnest love, and it was so tender and heart-felt that you were practically a quivering ball of sappy jelly by the end of the book. You spend the majority of the story lingering over once-lost memories, now shared between the characters, and watching with growing excitement as that centuries-old flame reignites between them. This was a good read, with a bit of a dry start, but rolling into a sweet and delicious romance that picks up the longer you invest in it.
Sandra Jackson is a wonderfully emotional writer, and her scenes play out in a fashion that allows each character's personality to shine. While the action of the story was a bit on the slower side, the meat of this book is really looking at emotions and how two people can come together. If you believe in soul mates, finding your one true love, and romance across the ages, then Promised Soul should definitely be at the top of your summer reading list!
