Price Of Eden: Aquarius Rising Book 3 by Brian Burt is set in a time when global warming has taken its toll on the world and many coastal cities are now under water. A new race of hybrid resides in these waters, a hybrid between humans and dolphins that is peaceful, until you disturb their peace. The relationship between humans and these Aquarians is shakier than ever and it feels like this is the end of the line for either one of these races. The relationship between them is becoming too harsh to survive.
There is hostility between the two humanoid races, both sides trying to get the upper hand in this war. The tribe of whales presents a prophecy, a prophecy that talks about a Storm-Slayer who will end this war and bring peace. Many believe that Ocypode is that son of Water and Earth who can save them all, but is it true? Can Ocypode do it? Is he really the Storm-Slayer? If he is, what will he do? What is the price that he will have to pay for the peace of the world and his people?
I have not read the series and this was my first introduction to Brian Burt, and I have to say this was a very good impression. The Aquarian universe is very complex and very well constructed, the characters are well-rounded and fully developed, and the atmosphere of the story is very dramatic and tense. The name of the novel suits the story really well. The dialogues are crisp, the story is fast paced, and the plot is the best science fiction I have ever read, which is all thanks to the writing style of Brian Burt! Simply brilliant and more than fantastic.
