Poems, Thoughts and More offers us relaxed, real, and varied poetry about experiences in the everyday world. The author, Maritza Martinez, through various types of poems, shares her life and her experiences with us. She shares sonnets, haiku, acrostics, and more. Maritza teaches us that we can perceive the little things in life for what they are, wonderful events. The topics are very varied; there are reflections, quotes, thoughts, anecdotes, and even a bit of fiction, all compiled over the years and condensed into a few thought-provoking words. Maritza's travel anecdotes are the essence of what can be enjoyed from diverse cultures and traditions not only in North America but also in Europe, which gives us a more realistic approach to what we would find on a real trip.
I loved Maritza Martinez's writing because Poems, Thoughts and More immerses you in the experiences, often with an unexpected twist. Sometimes reading her poems is like traveling without leaving home, other times her words evoke new meaning in an everyday moment. But there is always a positive aspect from which you can learn something new. This book is very pleasant to read; you can feel the affection with which she writes each sentence. The book is very useful to approaching poetry due to its simple vocabulary and the variety of its content. Another advantage is the bilingual translation; it’s wonderful that this book can be shared with people who speak Spanish or English and thus enlarges our interaction with people from other parts of the world.
