Poems for Time Travelers in Love is a collection of postmodern romantic poems penned by Robert Anbian. Infused with themes of love, nostalgia, and youthful exuberance, Robert Anbian's poems ignite a spark in the heart, transporting you to the carefree days of your youth. "Night & Day" feels like an allegorical poem regaling the experience of a lovemaking session. In "Civil Wars," the author recalls the experience of teen love. "Crazy Cloud Poem# 1" claims that you don't need religious scriptures to reach heaven; instead, make love. The book also contains a couple of poetic narratives. "Au Voyage" is a set of poems meant to be read chronologically like a record album. "To Ronald F. Sauer, Man, Poet & Beast" is a poem recounting a debate between two poets.
If romantic poems written in a postmodern style are your forte, Poems for Time Travelers in Love is a must-read for you. Almost all the pieces portray love in different forms and use it as a primary subject matter, although author Robert Anbian infuses them with plenty of abstract ideas. He uses a lot of non-rhyming stanzas, clever wordplay, and structural experimentation to make them feel authentic and uniquely original. The pieces are filled with wit and humor, quite often used in a detached and almost deadpan manner. I enjoyed them all but personally found "Four Confessions" and "Mt. Holly Days" to be my favorites, although that may change later on a reread. I will recommend Poems for Time Travelers in Love to anyone who enjoys postmodern poetry.
