Pinky Takes the Stage! is written and illustrated by Lindsay DeRollo. Emma and Pinky are the best of friends as well as dancers in a ballet class. When their dance instructor, Mrs. Linda, informs them that they will be taking part in a recital, Pinky begins to get very worried. During practice, Pinky messes up sometimes and is afraid that she will mess up on stage during the recital. How will Pinky ever overcome her fears before the ballet performance? Will more practice help or is she as ready as her teacher claims? What if Pinky does miss a step or two? How can the performance go on then?
Pinky Takes the Stage! by Lindsay DeRollo is an absolutely adorable children’s story full of encouragement and understanding when it comes to facing fears. I love how Pinky and Emma practice hard and help each other before the day of the ballet recital. Even though Pinky is afraid of not doing such a great job, Mrs. Linda gives her some valuable advice that all kids should apply to their daily work. I love how DeRollo expresses how important it is to pick yourself up and learn from your mistakes in a way that kids can easily understand and identify with. The illustrations are bright and colorful and display the story in beautiful images that will engage a child’s imagination. I recommend Pinky Takes The Stage! to anyone with young children who enjoy reading a story with an underlying message about teamwork and facing fears.
