Have you ever knitted a sweater with an Irish Setter, or played tug with a Pug? An Alphabet Tail is a children’s animal book from the Phoebe Cakes Tails series by Michelle Dumont. Phoebe Cakes, a special needs Bulldog from New Orleans, Louisiana didn’t have a happy life until she met her foster mom, Clare, at the New Orleans Bulldog Rescue. She helped Phoebe get adopted by Michelle and Phoebe now has a loving home. Phoebe wants you to meet some of her friends. Maybe they also need a “furever” home too. Have you ever seen an Ori Pei dance in a ballet or the Queensland Heeler who was a car dealer? How often do you ride a merry-go-round with a Basset Hound? Do you know a Catahoula who can dance the Hawaiian Hula?
"Dogs leave paw-prints on our hearts.” Phoebe Cakes and Friends: An Alphabet Tails by Michelle Dumont is an adorable children’s picture book. It has amusing rhyming verses about the different types of dogs that are friends of Phoebe Cakes. These are cleverly written in alphabetical order and are beautifully illustrated by Jennifer Zoe Taylor. The story is actually based on Michelle Dumont’s own rescue dog and is from the Phoebe Cakes Tails series. I was unfamiliar with a few of the dog species and loved the rhymes about each one. There are questions about things Phoebe Cakes likes and does that young children will have fun answering. What a great way for them to learn their alphabet!
