Peace Breathing: Lessons on Achieving Peace in Everyday Life is a nonfiction inspirational self-help book written by Charles H.C. Kim. Kim is the son of MyungSu YuSung Kim, the founder of The Peace School, and he has been the president of the school since his father’s passing in 1999. Each of the 31 stories in this book are designed to help facilitate the realization that you can be a part of world peace in your everyday life. While these can be read as a collection, the author suggests reading one lesson per day, which involves the reader in a month-long inspirational course. The lessons are in the form of parables or fables. Lesson 1 contrasts the turbulence of the ocean’s surface with the deep, abiding stillness to be found under the waves. When dealing with stressful or emotional situations, one often reacts as those waves do, tossing to and fro. Calming thoughts and peace breathing can enable one to quiet the mind and emulate the stillness and serenity of the ocean’s depths.
I read Peace Breathing: Lessons on Achieving Peace in Everyday Life in one sitting. I couldn’t help myself. I wanted to continue hearing more of what Mr. Kim had to say. But while I did so, I realized that I would want to come back and spend some time with each of the motivational lessons contained in this book. I was especially intrigued by the concept of Peace Breathing, as I’ve practiced Transcendental Meditation for many years, and I was curious to see how the two could complement each other. Since reading this book, I’ve found myself Peace Breathing throughout the day and even sometimes when I wake up at night. I love the idea of being part of a movement towards world peace, and the act of peace breathing does actually bring peace and tranquility. Peace Breathing: Lessons on Achieving Peace in Everyday Life is most highly recommended.
