Harrowing events take place in Payback by Russell Williams when two tenants from the same apartment complex are found murdered, both having been brutally beaten. The sister of one of the victims comes forward with information that points to a much darker and more sinister case. Detective Malone was hell-bent on catching the sick and twisted suspects behind the murders of these young women but while on the case he uncovers even more disturbing plots. Can Malone take down this criminal syndicate and put an end to their nefarious deeds?
Payback by Russell Williams is another action-packed novel in the Rick Malone series. I found this particular Rick Malone novel interesting and impactful. Not only does it create awareness of the issue of gender-based violence but it also shows the sick and twisted realm of human trafficking. This book had a much deeper impact on me as a female reader and I think that is why I was able to sympathize with the characters in this novel even more. Williams truly has a talent for drawing the reader into the story within a few short chapters and keeping you hooked with amazing pacing and a suspenseful plot. This novel held my attention from start to finish and I thoroughly enjoyed every chapter. No matter how gruesome the crime is, you can always count on Rick Malone to save the day. This is a novel worth checking out, especially for those who enjoy a good crime story featuring a badass detective.
