Path Unchosen (Daughter Of Ravenswood Book 1) by Kim Cleary is the story of Judy, who is not quite as ordinary as other young women her age. When she touches dead animals, they come back to life. Soon Judy learns that she has the powers of a necromancer, and that there is a lot more to her family's past than she ever imagined. When she escapes her fate at the orphanage and is taken in by Purah, who teaches her more about her skills, things start to become complicated and dangerous, especially when Judy wakes up a ghost, and then gets attacked by a zombie.
Path Unchosen (Daughter Of Ravenswood Book 1) by Kim Cleary is a well written fantasy story that mixes elements not usually found together, e.g. zombies and dragons. The characters and surroundings grab you right from the start, and it is a lot of fun to follow the characters on their paths. I particularly liked the strange connection between Evie and Judy, and hope that Evie might turn up again in the following books. You simply want to know what happens next, and to me it felt like the first book was just a warm up to get to know the characters a little. I am quite sure there is a lot more to learn about Purah, for example. I enjoyed the writing style and atmosphere of the book, and would definitely be interested in reading more from the same author in the future.
