Paralyzed Dreams by C.B. Cook starts with Pam playing volleyball with her best friend. Pam dreams of playing in the Olympics and the only thing more important than that dream is her faith and belief in Christianity. The book starts with a scene where Pam and her friend decide to use the messages of Christ to be nice to their volleyball opponents (who probably cheated to win) and bless them with kindness the way they feel Jesus would want them too. Pam feels good about the way she treated her opponents and hears the same thing from a boy that she is interested in, who also attends her church and appreciates her positive attitude. However, when Pam is in a car accident that paralyzes her from the waist down, Pam begins to question her faith. Why would God allow this to happen to her? How will she ever realize her dreams? Pam doesn't want to listen to her youth pastor or her parents who tell her that God has a plan and that everything will work out. Pam isn't sure how she can forgive and move on with her life, or if she even has a life to move on to.
I really enjoyed this story. It is very sweet with a very good moral. I loved how the whole theme tied together (the volleyball and even the title are so appropriate!). The Christianity is a pretty strong theme, but if you are prepared for that then you are going to enjoy this book. A very readable story with a well developed theme. Good job!
