One Queen to Another: How to Live Your Best (F*ckboy Free) Life by Melissa Bunbury is a well-written book with a strong message. Designed for female readers, it contains powerful lessons on making choices and handling some of the difficult and challenging moments in life. The author shares her story and offers readers lessons from that story. Raised in a Caribbean household where certain subjects were taboo before one graduated from school, the author suffered a lot as she navigated the world of relationships, with minimal emotional support from her family. She explains how she grew into a people-pleasing person, losing her fundamental right to determine what really makes her happy. The purpose of this book is spelled out clearly in the author’s own words: “I aim to encourage you to love yourselves wholeheartedly. I want you to fully accept and love every single part of who you are and what makes you, you. I want you to embrace each of your flaws and find the beauty in them.”
In One Queen to Another, Melissa Bunbury shares lessons on self-love and self-care, and articulates brilliantly on a variety of topics, including handling dates and how to dress up for them, tips on navigating complex situations like breaking up, developing strong and healthy friendships and relationships, handling friends with benefits, and a lot more. The writing is bold and the voice is casual, one that reflects a conversation between friends. In this book, the author engages readers in topics often not entertained in conservative families and talks about things that readers, especially young women, need to know. Here is a book that teaches readers the power of emotional freedom and the secrets to finding happiness by choosing to love who they are. This book is filled with love and insight.
