One Harvest Knight by Delia Latham is another inspiring and touching story that will provoke both thought and action. Shell Prentiss has settled in Harvest, Tennessee and owns a florist shop/boutique in Harvest Square. She donates her time and her talents at Grace Kitchen, a place run by the Tarwater twins, offering a dining experience and a helping hand to those in need. When items start disappearing out of Shell’s shop, she has her first encounter with Thorne Knight, the owner and editor of the Harvest Herald, also located on the square. Sparks fly – sparks of accusation, judgment, and condescension. Shell doesn’t understand why Thorne dislikes her so much and neither does he, at first. As the two instant enemies find common ground and as Thorne allows himself to see the real Shell, not the one he had presumed, a relationship begins to unfold. While working side by side to find a way to help the needy in their community, Shell’s heart is captured by a little girl named Rachael, and Thorne’s world is turned upside down when he is forced to deal with a past heartbreak that has left him unable to commit to anyone, even Shell. When the shock wears off, will Thorne be ready to commit? Will either, or both, be willing to surrender to forgiveness and allow God to bring healing?

Delia Latham weaves a seamless story of life, love, and God’s faithfulness. As we watch Shell and Thorne open up to the possibilities of what God has in store for them, we also watch them reach out to those around them. Those invisible and undesirable members of society that many try not to see have now become the focal point for Shell, and Thorne is right beside her. Delia Latham gives us a small peek into ways that we too can help those around us. While Shell worries about the well-being of Rachael, Thorne struggles with abandonment issues and dealing with a father lost to Alzheimer’s. Somehow they both manage to trust God and stay focused on the needs of those around them, including each other. When Thorne’s world shifts and he must decide to trust or lash out, we wait with Shell and follow along as events unfold. Delia Latham’s One Harvest Knight has entertained, touched our hearts, inspired us and this time, hopefully, encouraged us to do more for those around us. Those that may need a smile, a kind word, and maybe even a hand to hold. Delia has shone a light on those forgotten by society and shown us that when we look beyond the dirty clothes and ill-fitting shoes, we might find the unexpected. We might find people we like and are able to help.
