In One for Love by Carol Steeger, Lonnie Wade dreams of becoming a successful singer, and her dream seems to be within her grasp when she is offered a gig in the Stardust Lounge with her band. However, the owner and local Mafia mobster, Frank 'Junior' Fannelli, wants just a solo artist. When she discovers he wants more than a professional relationship, she tries, with the help of best friend Marty, to break ties. However, Junior is unaccustomed to rejection, as Lonnie finds out to her peril. Junior's behavior becomes more erratic and violent as he tries to ensnare Lonnie in a relationship. She must escape, but with Junior's connections, no-one seems to be able to protect her, apart from a fearless detective who is not on Junior's payroll. Lonnie, now free from Junior's grasp, tries to rebuild her life, but after a series of strange events, it becomes clear that Junior has tracked her down. What misery does Junior have planned for her and is there anyone she can trust to protect her?


One for Love by Carol Steeger is a novel that will keep you hooked until the very end. The characters are colorful and the dialogue matches their personalities so well. The tension and suspense were felt throughout, and I thought the areas of conflict were placed in just the right parts of the story. There are so many twists and turns within the novel that you are left wondering who is on Lonnie's side and who is not to be trusted. I loved the relationship between best friends Lonnie and Marty, their banter was quite humorous in parts, but the endearing bond they had was evident too. Detective Stephens was a superb character, brave and heroic. This novel will send chills down your spine as Junior psychologically tortures Lonnie. Lonnie is far from a helpless victim but a strong female protagonist who fights for her life and those she loves. A great read with excitement, romance, horror, and chills. A great thriller overall.
